If they’re still held as scheduled May 15-17, the Golden Games have a new name — The 2020 Glenwood Adventure Games — as well as a new host river and city. The Games are scheduled to take place in mid-May in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, but could be postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
Founded in 2011 and formally known as “The Golden Games”, the Glenwood Adventure Games is a three-day event spotlighting competitions and events in Kayaking, Stand Up Paddling, Fly Fishing, Slacklining, and Onewheeling. In addition to the competitions, Glenwood Adventure Games features clinics and educational seminars including the “Paddle with the Pros” event where anyone can paddle with the world’s top professional paddlers, product demos and highlights, a pub crawl, live music, plus volunteer and community outreach opportunities.
The games moved from Golden to Glenwood in 2019, a few years after the the brains behind the operation moved too. “I pitched my idea of moving the event to Glenwood Springs to the City and the Parks and Rec. Department and they’re helping me with permits and logistics. I’ve made great partnerships with the Glenwoood Springs Chamber who’s helping promote the event through all their social media channels and existing members, the business community and other organizations,” says T-roy Harcourt, founder and director of the games.
Anticipating well over 100 competitors and 2,000 in attendance, the Glenwood Adventure Games is one of the most premier events in Glenwood Springs. In fact, the games was the recipient of Elevation Outdoors Magazine’s “Best Paddling Event in the Rockies” from 2016-2019, the only entity to win the title 4 consecutive years. The Glenwood Adventure Games marks the annual springtime migration to Colorado for Action Sports, attracting world class athletes, traveling families, adventure seekers and the local community.
This event is organized and run entirely by volunteers including T-roy Harcourt. Harcourt has been organizing similar events since 2004 and has a passion for the outdoor lifestyle. Former small business owner, recent Colorado Mountain College Graduate and 4th Generation ColoRADo Native with a passion for all of life’s adventures.
